Launch of a pilot project for the European Health Data Space
The European Commission has chosen the consortium led by the French Health Data Hub to set up a pilot project for the European Health Data Space. Orphanet is also a member of this consortium along with fifteen other partners from ten European countries. The pilot project will provide an input to the proposal for a regulation aiming to create the European Health Data Space presented by the Commission on 3 May 2022. The main objective of this pilot project is to address the challenges surrounding access to health data throughout the EU, to open new perspectives to research and innovation.
The consortium will develop a network of data sources platforms, called nodes, by connecting the national platforms of participating countries, and to evaluate the feasibility, interest and the capacity to deploy such an infrastructure throughout the whole of the European Union. To this end, the consortium will build upon the experiences of the 1+ Million Genome Initiative and the opportunities offered by Artificial Intelligence.
Following the announcement, the Health Data Hub has published a press release and a video to present the pilot project. The draft regulation will be discussed in the European Parliament and in the Council of the EU, in parallel with the deployment of this pilot project.
