BSN variants cause a synaptic disorder with a broad phenotypic range across the age spectrum
A new study published in American Journal of Human Genetics showed de novo variants in BSN, which encodes the key presynaptic scaffolding protein Bassoon implicated in synaptic vesicle positioning and release. The variants were described within a cohort of 29 individuals suffering from common clinical characteristics, with age-specific signature, including epilepsy; febrile, generalized tonic-clonic, or focal-onset seizures; developmental delay; obesity; and delayed speech.
